The title is in homage to the venerable Gil Scott-Heron. It is one of the ironies of art that we critique capitalism through the same means as we fortify it. This is because capitalism is a relation between people and a means of exchange – the selling of art – and not an idea to dispel.
As a result, it is perfectly peculiar and yet nauseatingly normal to see anti-capitalist messaging selling for millions of dollars. There is no roadmap to a liberated society, which could only occur organically. If everyone falls into line following signals to some new social goal, then invariably, that will merely be another form of structural positioning and exploitation. From this came the idea of traffic signals for revolution – voilà.
